We had a busy week here in first grade! We are looking forward to our Eating of the Greens celebration on Monday. Just a reminder parents are welcome at 10:45 for our celebration. We will be enjoying lots of green foods! In math this week we have been working with tens and ones to show a number. We practiced showing different ways to make numbers when we break apart a ten. We will continue this practice during centers next week. In readers workshop this week we cleaned out our book bins and worked as a team to select "just right" books to load up our book bins. We have also been working on elements of a non-fiction books. We continued working on sh and ch blends. During writers workshop we have started to edit some of our informational books. We have worked on editing for spelling, spaces, does it make sense to the reader, and is my writing neat? Next week we will continue editing and begin our last information writing books. We started our research today to prepare for an informational chapter book! Our 4th grade buddies helped us begin to research our topics! In science we used our thermometers to test the temperature of water. We graphed the temperature of cold, hot, and mixed water. We discussed good guesses for temperature. Our guesses got much better after we discussed that water freezes at 32! We read more Dr.Seuss this week. The Cat In The Hat was a fun read-aloud! We did a Green Eggs and Ham word search to find all 50 words! This was a hard task but many fantastic first graders found them all! I have encouraged everyone to look at their writing this week and see if they have anything they would like to submit to the school magazine. I have a few entries but if your child has something at home they would like to submit please send it in by Monday! Enjoy the weekend!
